Laura Yeates ((DeHaan), Stubbs)

Bill DeHaan & Laura Yeates met in our senior year.  We dated from September 1978 till we married on March 20, 1982.  Bill died in an accident at home in our driveway while working on his Corvette when it fell upon him rendering him unconscious.  He died of suffocation on November 10, 1984 when the rescue team took too long to get the car off his body.  Heartbroken, I feel privileged to have had those precious years together being a part of his short life.  "Better to have had True Love and lost than never to have had those special memories together."

I remember Bill from high school and this may sound odd but I think of him often. I purchased a used 1972 Corvette that was for sale off of 34th street and 22nd avenue while home on leave from the Navy. This was in 1982 and two years before Bill died. I had the car until 1986. My Dad who has since passed away and who loved sports cars encouraged me to buy it. My Dad never entertained his passion of sports cars but instead chose to own mostly clunkers and provide for his family.

After I purchased the car and heard about Bill's trajedy, every time working under that car and every car since then, Bill's story crosses my mind. I am certain that Bill had a enormous passion for life and cars the same as my Dad and car guys like him and is missed very much.
